Registering for Workshops

My workshops are focused on building skills and learning techniques using hand tools. I am happy to have complete beginners in my workshop, particularly the skill and technique oriented workshops. The best way to develop new skills is to be free to make mistakes and learn from them. This is ambiance that I strive to maintain and my goal is to establish a constructive learning environment where students can laugh at and with each other as they explore hand tool woodworking. Occasionally we may use a power tools, but this is rare. Workshops are often labor intensive. That’s the downside! The flip-side is that you will learn to use hand tools efficiently and effectively, and I guarantee you will be surprised at what you can accomplish. Project oriented workshops may require some prior experience so please inquire.

DETAILS

  • Length. Workshops in my own shop (see exceptions below) are generally 1, 2 or 4 days in length. The four day workshops are on successive weekends.

  • Times. Class times are 9 am (sharp) to 5:00 pm although classes often go as late a 6 pm depending on how the workshop has progressed.

  • Liability Wavier. Students are required to read, understand, and sign a liability wavier before class begins (check out the home page for a copy).

  • Meals. I provide lunch each day and there will be plenty of bottled water to drink. Please let me know about any dietary preferences, etc. and I will accommodate those.

  • Tools. I provide all of the tools for the workshop. You are encouraged to bring your own tools to work with but this is not necessary. I will send out a tool list well before the workshop.

  • Manual. I provide a comprehensive resource manual written specifically for the workshop. This manual covers everything in the workshop is detail, and is often useful after the workshop ends.

  • Feedback. I like to have students provide me feedback about their experiences in the workshop, and so I include a SASE in the manual for their comments, which can be anonymous.

PRICES

  • Cost. The workshop prices are $90 per day.

  • Basic fees. There is a basic material fee of $15 which applies to a workshop of any length. This fee is for non-project oriented workshops (skills and technique building)

  • Project Fees. Project oriented workshops will have a materials fee that reflects the cost of lumber and hardware for that project. Please inquire.
